CEO Spotlight: Jeff Bell, LegalShield

Americans are increasingly faced with circumstances where they could use legal protection, whether it be to dispute an incorrect invoice, deal with the fallout from identity theft, help with estate planning, or provide counsel for an impending charge or lawsuit. When confronted with these precarious situations, most people believe they are unable to afford a lawyer to assist them.

In a recent legal survey, 30% of American adults reported facing an issue where legal services should have been enlisted but were not -- this represents approximately 72 million adults who opted against hiring a lawyer, even when they recognized they should have.  Additionally, nearly one-third of American adults (approximately 77 million) do not feel confident in their ability to know when a lawyer should be enlisted.

What many don’t realize is that affordable legal protection is within reach.

LegalShield, one of the nation’s leading providers of affordable legal plans and identity theft solutions for individuals, families and small businesses, offers consumers the opportunity to consult with an attorney about any personal legal issue for a low monthly fee. Last month, the company appointed Jeff Bell as CEO, assuming the role from Rip Mason, who will move to the position of Executive Chairman of the Board for LegalShield. We spoke with Mr. Bell recently to learn more about his background and his plans for LegalShield.

As a respected veteran of high profile marketing initiatives for Microsoft, Ford, and Chrysler, Mr. Bell comes to LegalShield with over 20 years of corporate leadership and consumer marketing experience for global brands. While serving as Corporate Vice President, Global Marketing, Interactive Entertainment Business for Microsoft, Mr. Bell oversaw tremendous success, leading the business to its first profitable year in its existence. During his time as VP of the Chrysler and Jeep Divisions for DaimlerChrysler, he launched the Jeep 4-door Wrangler, Chrysler 300, Town & Country with “Stow ‘n Go” seating and the ‘Grab Life by the Horns’ marketing campaign.

Mr. Bell also holds a M.B.A in finance and marketing from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and a Master’s degree in international relations and economics from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.

“I am very excited to lead the LegalShield family, its exceptional operational team and its stellar sales force to help it become the preeminent provider of pre-paid legal service plans in North America,” said Bell. “LegalShield started with a single founder whose vision for success rested heavily on its employees and the success of its sales force, and I’m excited to continue this heritage of success going forward.”

Under Bell’s leadership, LegalShield is aggressively moving into the small business market, offering legal consultation on unlimited matters, business law expertise, contract and document review, debt collection assistance, legal correspondence, and trial defense services. In the area of employee benefits, he wants to take the stress of legal and identity theft issues off employees’ shoulders so they can focus on their work.

“Our goal is to provide equal access to equal justice for everyone,” says Bell. “I believe in the American Dream and the right of every person to be free of legal hassles so they can focus their attention on the pursuit of happiness. At LegalShield we provide a range of services designed to protect and enhance the lives of millions.”

LegalShield’s mission is to create a world where everyone can access and afford legal protection. For $20 a month, LegalShield provides consumers the opportunity to consult with an attorney about any personal legal issue. Whether it’s big, small, or somewhere in between, the LegalShield affiliated law firms are there to offer advice or assistance on a variety of personal legal matters, and to provide services which include access for covered emergency situations 24/7, letters/calls made on members’ behalf, and review of contracts and other documents from Living Wills, to Healthcare Power of Attorney, to IRS audits.

Our network of attorneys is the framework that enables our members to pick up the phone and call an accomplished law firm that is ready and willing to help with any personal legal issue,” says Bell.
